Jailbreaks/IOS Hacks
So, my iPhone 5 has always had this problem. I've been really busy with school and work or i would have taken it in in september while it still had applecare plus. It has vertical lines running down the screen, most noticeable on the top part. Apple is telling me to pay $269 for this. Has anyone had this problem out of warranty and what did you do about it? I know i shouldn't expect a free replacement but under the circumstances, it seems like it should be an option.

Did you purchase your iPhone 5 and AC+ using an Amex card? If so, it'll mirror the one-year standard warranty at the end of AC+ giving you an extra year of warranty coverage and you can file a claim to get reimbursed the $269 plus tax or up to the price you paid for your iPhone 5 plus tax.

If the screen is original from Apple most likely it's a lose LCD connector that needs to be pushed all the way down. iPhone has to be opened first.

If the lcd has been ever replaced by non Apple service it's aftermarket LCD and they have those kind of issues.

Apple can replace just lcd for $100-$179 instead of replacing iPhone for $269

If it's always had the problem why did you wait 2 years? Or not exchange it immediately when you got it?

Dude, you cant really use the excuse "been really busy with school and work"
You had 2 years to get it replaced:D

its actually a replacement phone from about 4 months ago.

Well, you're one month too late (as all replacement iPhones carry a 90-day warranty if your standard warranty or AC+ will expire before that). Your signature indicates you have an iPhone 6? If so, I'd not bother replacing it for $269 unless you have the warranty coverage from Amex or equivalent. Maybe do a cheaper repair if you can.

i'm just going to show up to the genius bar and hope i get lucky.

So it doesn't qualify for the power switch? Sucks:(
This older iphone 5 I brought in was really warn out and just got it replaced for a refurb that looks and functions as new. And the imei unlock I had purchased on it years ago transferred to the replacement unit.
So I should get some decent money for it when it sells I hope.

Got it replaced for free because i apparently called about the issue while my warranty was still in effect. :D got my replacement on 7.1.2. jailbreaking on there because 7.1.2 runs way better than 8.1 on the 5 :p
