Anyone got a recommendation for a decent shoulder sling bag that is secure, will hold an IPP 12.9", fairly small and looks stylish (as opposed to an obvious laptop bag)? I am in the UK but hopefully that won't matter.

What with WFH now - when I do travel up to work I want to go light.

I’ll boost this, as I’m looking for a messenger bag replacement to accommodate my iPad Pro 11” w/ Magic Keyboard, notebook or two, and space for a DSLR or Mirrorless camera with small lens. Gotten more into videography with the pandemic, and my current bag design doesn’t really accommodate a camera well (or not as well as I’d like for a $1,000 camera haha).

For NastyMatt, I’ll say that camera notwithstanding, I’ve used a Brenthaven messenger bag for almost 5 years now, and it’s still going pretty well. One of the zipper pulls has fallen off, but it’s otherwise still in pretty great shape.

Me too! I'll hop on the bandwagon! I want a bag to hold my 11'' with magic keyboard, a sketchbook, a hydro flask and some lady things! Seems everything out there is also meant to carry a load of school books and be used by a bike commuter.

I've had mirrorless since they started and just never found a bag that did everything I wanted it to that didn't scream dorky camera bag. Never have enough pockets, the latches are always dumb or fiddly, they'er always so heavy and a mirrorless just gets lost in them. I loved Ona bags a lot but they were always too big or too small. I bought a Tamrac camera cube and had just put it in a normal bag for a while. The struggle is real!

I am a big fan of the Waterfield Designs Sutter Tech sling bag.

BUT...

It was made for 12.9 inch iPP and smaller. When the new magic keyboard was added though, the 12.9 with keyboard does NOT fit in the pocket in bag. It does say on the website the 12.9 does fit in the bag, which it does, but not in the back pocket. So I carry mine that way now. They do make a new bag now though that it clearly says hold the 12.9 iPP with magic keyboard in it's sleeve pocket, which is the new the Field Sling or Backpack that you can choose which one you want.

I still love my Sutter Tech though, so staying with that, the back sleeve / pocket is now for papers.

I like the Ethnotek Somonya sling for my surface - it should fit the 12.9 equally as well. You can get it in all sorts of cool patterns or just basic black.

I just got a Waterfield iPad Pro Sleevecase for my 2021 iPP 12.9. I got the one that fits the iPP with a Magic Keyboard attached.

I've been using their stuff for about 12 years. It's all great quality at decent prices, hand made in SF.

I've been hooked on Timbuk2, and had a Bihn bag, and a bunch of book bags from college days (and those that survived that time are apparently indestructible). I had a fanny pack from back when they were cool, and it lasted decades, only to have the dog eat it.

Good bags are hard to find. Good cycling wallets are hard to find too. Especially ones that will fit an 11Pro Max in a Defender case. *shrug*

Good stuff...

I was overjoyed that the Thule backpack I have fits the iPad Pro 12.9, AND can also hold a 13" MBP (if I really want to be punished dashing through an airport). And chargers, nuts, and a change of clothes if it's a short trip.

Thanks for sharing. I'll now have to look at the rest of their bags. It's all good...

I got a small Timbuk2 messenger bag, and had buyer's remorse before it arrived. It's perfect. I tend to over haul stuff in my carry-on, so having a thinner bag for the necessities is such a concept. Usually my Thule bag is full of all kinds of goodies that I'd have a hard time arguing are necessities. But, but, but... (At one time, I carried a 'news paper delivery boy' type bag, but it was really far too big, but incredibly durable. When they clamped down on carry-on sizes, I had to give up hauling that thing around)

I'm an avid cyclist (45k miles in the last 8 years). What is it you need in a cycling wallet. I just slip my iPhone 11 Pro Max in my jersey pocket for road, and when I ride gravel that bike has a top tube bag that fits my iPhone. For gravel and mtb I also ride with a CamelBak Rogue that has some room for extra stuff. Otherwise, I have a small waterproof wallet I got from bicyclegifts.com for about $6, that holds my drivers license, medical insurance card, a CC and some cash. Sadly, it seems they don't have them anymore. I hope I never lose mine.

I have a Manhattan Cartage top tube bag, but it needs some padding to stop things from banging on the carbon fiber top tube of my current bike. I used to use a larger (REALLY large) Manhattan Cartage fanny pack, but it's kinda too big. (Hard to admit, as much as it is)

I had a Camelbak that I could stuff tool kits and tubes in, but it's hard to carry it when road biking. I tend to like to be 'pushed' when I'm road riding, so often the Camelbak was just too much. So I started looking for a 'cycling wallet'. I stared at Silca, but what I discovered is that so many of them haven't kept up with today's phones, and cases. I did ride with someone who used to road ride with the Camelbak with the bladder removed. Hmm...

I have ridden over 17,000 miles over the past three years, but most of it has been indoors. Nearly 7,500 miles last year. But I did an outside ride this past Saturday, and loved it. I'll be rocking my Waterfieldd wallet, andd probably still looking for something that is a little bigger. (I didd email their president with the idea of making the 'large', larger. They are going to look into making it bigger. Who knows if they will change their designn)

So, maybe it's possible that I carry too much stuff, but... *shrug*

Oh, funny that I ggot a 'wallet' from Rapha. It was, wait for it... Only $39.99. Like, I KNOW! A simple thin singlet was $70.00!!! I was floored that it wasn't requiring my left arm. It's made really well too, and does not fit my iPhone and case. *sigh*

I'll chceck out the site you referenced. I'm not desperate (A large ZipLoc bag works wonders) but would like to come up with *something* that I can use.

Thanks...

Funny too that one of the guys at the LBS told me that they considered me one of the most reliable and hardest riding guys in the area. I was surprised. I don't think they were trying to sell me anything either. Weird... One of them follows my Strava, so maybe that's what they base it on?

I asked 'avid', and he said 'insane'. Now I need a hip replacemennt, so yeah, insane probably is the right answer.

I'm 62 and retire in a year. I plan to get back to riding 6-8k miles again. I'm on pace to ride about 4k this year. I'm going to build a custom Moots as a retirement gift next year and ride Copper Triangle next summer (I've done it twice so far, once on a single-speed for my 60th birthday).

Check Revelate Designs for some nice bike bags. I use them on my gravel bike. First rate stuff

If anyone is interested in the use case I asked about, I found the perfect bag (now it’s about affording it haha). Peak Designs Messenger 2 has adaptable space to fit a DSLR or Mirrorless, along with an iPad and notebooks. This is def going to be my next bag

I retired 6 years ago. I tell people I 'work for my wife', annd am busier than I ever was when I was working.

I think of all the time I wastedd not riding my bikes. Now, I need a hip replacement, and probably a knee too. It's getting harder to stay active, but don't stop is the best advice. I've ridden every route onn Zwift but one. Rode App Gap. Rode 5 Boros several times. Ride to live, live to ride...

I bought 'the last bike I'll ever need' and have been showering money on it ever since, and looking for the NEXT last bike I'll ever need...

That huge Manhattan Portage (Got the name wrong earlier. Check them out too) fanny pack worked out very well for Iceman, which I've done twice. (It was brutal both times) So I've wanted to Bike Japan, and would like to bike New Zealand too. So many places to ride, so little time, potentially... You never know. Enjoy retirement! Ride on!!!

Yeah, I have a bike collection, and bag collection, and... It's all good.

I have received Vibe 325 ECONYL® Anti-Theft Sling Pack today. I can confirm that it does fit a 12.9" IPP with MK attached, plus the pen. It is snug, which I like and it does have a pocket inside for a pen which I will probably use so I do not lose it when taking it out.

The security is very good i.e. locks the zippers, rfid shield pocket etc Seems well constructed (anti cut, reinforced) It's only a 10L bag which is what I was looking for.
