I asked Siri when Apple’s earnings release was. This is the response I got:

I then asked Siri the same question but preface it with ChatGPT. This is the response I got:

Shouldn’t Apple Intelligence be smart enough to know if Siri is going to bring back web search results and if so then kick the question over to ChatGPT? The first response is embarrassing. The ChatGPT response is correct.
h/t to John Gruber for pointing this out

Siri is stuck in her ways

She has been doing the "here's what I found for you on the web" routine for so long ... and just can't let it go!

😂

Apparently not. But what’s the point of ChatGPT integration if Siri never hands off? Of course in this case it’s embarrassing that Siri doesn’t even know the answer in the first place.

I start every request to Siri with "ChatGPT" the response is always from ChatGPT.

This is precisely what Apple recommends. See https://support.apple.com/guide/iph...-siri-iph17bafe0f6/18.0/ios/18.0#iphfe8ce9b36

It also says:

If you make a request to Siri without mentioning ChatGPT, and Siri determines that ChatGPT would be helpful, it asks if you want to use ChatGPT to fulfill the request. You’re always asked to confirm before any photos or files are sent to ChatGPT.

So it's supposed to be able to prompt you if it thinks using ChatGPT would be helpful instead. But a quick way to get Siri to use ChatGPT for a query is to start the query "Ask ChatGPT..."
