iPod touch Shows apple logo and shuts off; help without restore please.

I have an ipod touch 3rd gen and when I turn it on it only shows the apple logo for about a minute and shuts off. It is charged. It was jailbroken two years ago and still was I have Cydia on it. I want to get it working without restoring it because my last backup was in September and I don't I don't want to lose my notes. I've tried "reb00t mee" on a mac but the application won't install. Can anyone help WITHOUT restoring and deleting everything?

I've checked other posts but I'm having trouble finding a solution. I have all of my itunes on a PC but I also have access to a mac.

I got reb00t mee to download and install but it says there is an error during terminal and stops

If you do get it running you might consider running iOS 5.0.1 as notes can sync to iCloud.
