On the tech specs page of apple.com, it says 50-watt-hour battery. Where as far as i can remember the old macbook pros have 60-watt-hour. Any one notice this and know how did they still get 5 hour battery life? By using the downgraded graphic card? which means to par the old mbp performance, the new one only has 4 hour's life?

The processor used requires less power. Thus Apple can get battery life similar to the old MBP with a slightly smaller and lighter battery. The new MBP has the added advantage of being able to switch to its 9400m GPU and last even longer.
