I rarely need to, but I am wondering if anyone knows any method to safely shut down the Time Capsule. I hate just switching the power off because I am never sure if the HDD is writing.

I thought there used to be a way to disconnect all users from the disk in the AirPort app?

Any ideas?

In the Airport Utility, there is only the option to re-start. If I actually needed to shut my TC down, I'd just make sure that no backups were taking place, then check that nobody's using the net. Pulling the plug is the only way to actually shut it off that I know of, as it's designed to run 24 /7 anyway.

I don't think there's a way to. The best way to do it might just be to restart it from AirPort Utility, then pull the plug.
