Is it ok to shut down my macbookpro while leaving the DVD in it?

yes, it will mount on your desktop when you start up

It should do that, but it might also eject it because the computer runs a check on the drive to make sure nothing has been put into it. I'm not too sure on this one.

Also, sometimes on my eMac when I used to close it down with a CD or DVD in the drive it wouldn't be able to find the drive when it booted up, or it would mount it and when you tried to eject it nothing happened. Some strange stuff, personally I'd take it out.

I would take it out especially on a portable. Lord knows I don't want some sort of debris in my computer while I carry it around.

I've never had a problem when leaving a CD/DVD in, however i've never left a disk in if i was going to carry the PowerBoook around.
