Hi, does anyone have a side-by-side comparison of a 30GB & 60GB 5G iPod video? I'm looking to upgrade and want to see how thick/larger the 60GB is to the 30GB? *sorry if it's been posted*

I have a 60 gig but one of my friends has a 30. All i can say is that if you don't absolutely need 60 gigs get the 30. It is way thinner and looks a lot better. My 60 looks like a brick in comparison. I'd post a pic but i don't have a camera.

it may look like a brick but even the 60gb 5th gen is i thinner than the 4th gen 20gb if i am not mistaken :)

Nope you're right. However I will say the 30 GB is noticeably smaller than my 5th Gen 60 GB but I filled mine up pretty quickly with movies so I'm glad I got the 60 GB.

Well, I currently have a black 30GB iPod video, and so far, I've accumulated 19.73GB, so that's why I'm looking to upgrade, but thanks for the info.

thickness

the nano in its entirty is exactly as thick as the silver on the 30 gig, the 30 gig in its entirety is exactly as this as the silver on the 60 gig, i was amazed at this, but it is true, try it out for yourself.

30 gigs is wey too little space for me (have over 30 gigs of music alone), but is aesthetically much nicer. I think that its due to the fact that the plastic section of the ipods is a lot thicker than previously, so on the 30 its ok because the whole thing is really slim, but on the 60, you get a thin layer of plastic followed by an abundance of metal...i.e. its proportions aren't pretty

In my opinion the size difference is nothing that should deter you from having more GB space, if you need it. I went from a 30GB to a 60GB 5th Generation iPod, and size is something that I haven't even noticed.

how do you have so much music? did you rip like 1000 older CDs or sometin? :D

The reason the 60 is thicker is to accomdate the double platter hard disk drive, which is 2 30GB platters, while the 30 only has a single 30 GB platter.

30 gb ought to be enough for anyone.

it's not like you listen to all the songs on your ipod anyway, is it?

there's about 3 bands that i listen to on my ipod: oasis, do as infinity, and led zeppelin.

Yes 30 gig is enough for music but as for video content i would disagree... I would say if you plan on doing anyting with video on the ipod i would say the 60 is the way to go. The content can easily start adding up. Oh and oasis ROCKS!

My thought process on this is that if you plan on having the iPod for a while, I would want to leave room to grow. Songs, CD's, etc, are something that you are always getting more of. In my opinion, you can never have to much space.

That's fine for you, but I like having all of my music on me. Why? It saves the trip from going to my cd-display and finding a cd, putting it into a cd-player, finding song and playing it. If there's the chance I want to listen to a random song, it's there. That's why I bought it. Otherwise, I'd have a nano.

I just have a fair bit of music, its all ripped at 192, which does make a slight difference. Quite honestly though, there are people here with much more music than me:eek:

Sorry, wrong pic. Said it was the 5th generation ipod, but apparently it's not.

yeah it is, i can't find any direct 30/60 5G comparisons though...how strange!

I am supprised someone has not done it yet. I might do it this week. My friend has a 60 and I have a 30. If I can find a nano I will trow it in there too!
