Side Switch Missing in Settings

I am using IOS 7 and get no sound notification when I receive a text message. I surfed around for a fix. I reset all settings and then tried to go to Settings>General>Use Side Switch but there is no "use side switch". Can anyone help?

Side Switch Missing in Settings

I am running IOS 7 on a iPhone 4S

I don't believe there are any side switch settings in iOS for iPhones (just for iPads).

Have you checked all your notification settings for Messages, and the selected alert sounds/vibration for Messages as well?
