Sidebar icon missing

I have a MacBook Pro 13 and have lost the Documents folder from the Favourites sidebar.

When I go to Finder preferences, I can see it, and can put a tick in the box to show it on the sidebar. But then the tick disappears. I try again and the tick stays in the box and the Documents icon shows in the sidebar. But then that icon disappears.

I have rebooted, I have run disk utility first aid. Still the same problem. I'm hoping someone has the answer here.
