The problem is me. Sorta.
When I hovered level with the word "Locations" in the Sidebar, lo and behold the word "Show" appears. Needless to say, just clicking on it made the missing entries reappear.
I'm pretty sure I didn't click on the word "Hide" but there's some Boolean property in some plist that's testifying otherwise so who ya gonna believe?
I guess I never paid attention to the Show/Hides that occasionally pop up and I would think one would use a right-facing/down-facing triangle to indicate collapse/expand rather than disappearing ink.
Thanx to my hot wife for pointing me in the right direction. She just upgraded to Big Sur where there are disappearing triangles.
Original Post:
Earlier this week I did some update and this morning, Friday, September 24 there was a notification that there was another update. I applied it and it now says 10.15.7 (I lost track of what it was yesterday). All was fine until I plugged in my iPhone and suddenly all the Sidebar Location Items disappeared. (External DVD, network, network drives, iPhone, Servers, Bonjour.)
I checked Finder Preferences and those items are checked. I tried relaunching Finder, unchecking/checking, rebooting, combinations of those, etc. The Result is the same: there's nothing under Locations. The only thing I haven't tried is an OS reinstall.
The drives appear on the desktop as always but, as I said, I don't see them in the Sidebar.
Most annoyingly, neither my previous nor my new iPhone appear, even if they're attached via USB.
And I repeat: I have checked Finder Preferences and those items are checked.
Anybody else? Any ideas?
