Signal messenger - data hog?

Does anyone else use this? I reset my iPhone's cellular data meter last night. Today I see that Signal already used over 4mb of data whiteout me even using the app. By comparison, Whatsapp has used 1.6kb without me using it.

Is this normal behavior for Signal?
