I’ve never been so bothered by Apple’s decisions about an upgrade. I’m solidly in the iOS 15 is the worst thing since iOS 8

Why am I getting notifications about silenced calls??? This was not the behavior of iOS 14! I don’t need a notification that a call not in my contacts was silenced. It’s so stupid. It makes it so it’s not even on anymore.

I’m so pissed at this change. Can you tell? lol.

I DO NOT want ANY notifications about silenced calls that are not in my contacts!!! It’s bothersome. It takes attention away for unnecessary distractions that you choose to ignore in the first place.

PLEASE return it back to iOS 14 behavior. Selecting silence unknown callers should make it SILENT.

Anyways…. That felt good. thanks for listening. If you have any idea why it’s useful to alert people that a call was silenced… I’m all ears.

Are you talking about the "Silence Unknown Callers" setting? I use that feature quite a bit and I thought in iOS 14 it gave you an alert that you missed a call but just sent it straight to voicemail? I don't have it on now in iOS 15 because I'm trying this new spam blocking thing Verizon has.

I use that setting in iOS 15 and it works fine for me. I don't get a notification, which is even better. I don't have a high call volume generally, and only look at the Recents/Missed every few days. I'm on Verizon. Could the carrier make a difference in how that works? It doesn't seem to be a carrier-specific setting.

I have "Silence unknown callers" on for a very long time now, and I got notifications in ios14 and get the same notifications in ios15, no change in behavior I have noticed.
Maybe it has to do with the new Focus feature which I really don't use other than DND at night ...

What does unknown callers means??
A phone number that is not in your contacts? Or someone purposely blocking his phone number or have his number as private?

The only issue I've ever had with it was with Verizon. When I first bought my iPhone 12 I got their insurance and it came with this call blocking and identification service. That was a nightmare because then spam callers were "identified" so weren't considered unknown and thus not silenced. I finally got them to turn it off and things went back to normal. This was on iOS 14 though so not sure if this would of happened on iOS 15.

If it's not in your contacts it goes straight to voicemail. I think there is some other part where if you call the number it becomes known but I'm not 100% sure on that. It's only useful if you don't need to take calls often from numbers you don't have in your contacts and you get tons of spam calls. If you needed to accept calls from customers or something like that it is useless. If you're expecting a call you can turn it off in settings.

When I get a phone call from a number that is not in my contacts a number “1” appears on top of my Phone app icon if they didn’t leave a message. If they leave a message then a number “2” appears on top of my Phone app icon. That is all I have noticed in iOS 15 on my iPhone XR. (No pun intended.) No actual notification message as far as I can remember. I don’t remember getting a notification message under iOS 14 either. But I’m old…wait what were we talking about… :cool:

It’s just a banner letting you know a silenced call was ignored, no sound or vibration. It’s always been this way.

With T-Mobile, I actually block numbers that I don't want calling me. If one of the numbers tries to call after I block, the line is immediately disconnected on their end, just like it would be if a number was no longer valid. That is a lot different than a spam call going to voicemail. When that happens, the spammers and scammers are made aware the line is active and can continue calling as well as selling your number to others. Verizon and AT&T etc. need to start offering actual blocking.

I have T-Mobile too. After I receive a call from a number not in my Contacts, I wait a few minutes to see if they left a message. Sometimes the call is legitimate and the message verifies that, so I don’t block that number. Most of those calls never leave a message, so I definitely block those, and of course I block the spam calls that do leave a message. I still get 10 to 20 calls per month from new, unblocked numbers that are not in my Contacts. So it is a constant thing having to block numbers. The calls keep coming and never seem to slow down. T-Mobile has a spam feature which I activated, but I don’t think it actually does much to block spam calls. Most of the spam calls come from numbers that are assigned to T-Mobile customers. No doubt the numbers were spoofed, probably to circumvent T-Mobile filters. Plus T-Mobile has had at least 3 major security breaches in the past few years, so some of those numbers are probably from those. Never ending battle…

It is rare that I get spam or scam calls anymore. Hopefully, it stays that way as I don't give out my super secret number unless you are part of the A-Team. :D

Verizon does offer the same thing. Please don’t spread information that you don’t have the correct information about.

the whole notification system in iOS 15 has changed for the worse. I'm now getting woken up by slack vibrating when the phone is on mute. Never happened with 14.

Did it give an notification? I’m not sure it did… all I remember is that all those unknown calls went straight to voicemail and I didn’t have to know about them until I opened the phone app. (I turned off the badges. With badges turned on it still showed red dot if there was a voicemail).

That’s how it should work (no knowledge until you check missed calls in phone app) but I get a notification on Lock Screen now that says a call from 999-555-1234 was silenced.

This is the notification. Screenshot. I SHOULD NOT be getting a notification for a silenced call. There’s a reason I selected “Silence Unknown Callers”
The call is from my same area code, and most likely a spam/hack call since I don’t live in that area code anymore

I don't know if this will help but my phone notification settings are:
Lock Screen = off
Notification center = off
Banners = on
Banner style = temporary
Badges = enabled
Show previews = never

Cool thanks I’ll check it out

I’m gonna try turning off the previews and see what happens.

It’s been like that. I always get that notification & get it on my AW (no sound, unless voicemail)
