Thank you Jah...I'm so Blessed
Well its out...for NA that is and I'm going to pick up my copy after work. I know a lot of you guys don't give a damn about the series but just as Jimmi with Valve and praxis with SMB I have the Silent Hill series and I think theres some Silent Hillers in the mac community as well :)

So far we have four reviews with them spilt. OXM and another gave it average reviews but these two loved it.

I'll post my review tonight and I would also love to hear what you have to say...Thats if your into Silent Hill.

Well sort of but RE goes for the jump out scare and SH messes with your mind and heavily story driven(from sex to murder, abuse, cult, drugs)...things are never clear in Silent Hill.

The old RE and SH run on the "fetch key" "solve puzzle" "cut scene" type mechanics(never really big on combat) but Silent Hill gives it a twist and adds the otherworld(which is pretty messed up) poetic messages and symbolism.

So there is two more reviews and once again its still spilt down the middle....IGN tore it apart but 1up seems to love it.

IGN review is going against all the other reviews claiming "its not scary anymore" because the protagonist is a war vet and can handle himself but the others are saying its still holds the atmosphere that made SH....all opinions really and I'm going to chime in tomorrow.

SH2 & 3 were my favorites. SH 4 'The Room' was a bitter let down to me but my fingers are crossed with this one.

Played SH1 but couldn't get the good ending because I seemed to not understand the story enough. I always did what I thought I was supposed to do, but there were some things I didn't find out, as I later learned from reading a walkthrough. I would say RE is much more linear than SH1.

That said I really found the otherworld thing really cool and creepy and that's why I somehow liked the game, although I would have preferred to "get the story" more.

I didn't play any other SH though, always liked the RE games better.

For me, Silent Hill 2 was the best one I played. Very creepy. Isn't this new one made by US developers rather than Konami Japan? I hope it's good!

Ah thanks for reviewing it man! I'm really looking forward to this game. I think the guy from IGN forgot to turn the lights out. These games are scary, but just like with any other horror movie/whatever, it loses it's fear factor if it is experienced with a bunch of other people or in broad daylight . Let's hope he was mistaken.

2ny's Impressions: Silent Hill fans(myself, floyde and MRU :) ) rejoice because this is Silent Hill.

Controls/Combat takes a bit getting use to but its similar to every TPS on the market with the left stick controlling Alex and the right stick controlling the camera. The combat is good, definitely a step in the right direction. There is normal and strong attacks map to separate buttons that will assist you with taking down the harder monsters and believe me they are HARD.

The story is interesting, I can't comment on it much because I'm not that far into the game but from the memos and cutscenes I played through its going to be a nice ride down "Silent Hill 2" lane.

The monsters are truly in line with the other SH monsters. the boss battles are on the "zelda" level now which isn't bad but the boss I encountered was easy and didn't give much of a fight. Moving on to SMOG...I hate that f##$% monster. Its too much like the lying figure from SH2 and Origins...no originality with him..I had to use my range weapon(SH games don't offer a lot of ammo for guns) on him or he'll spit up all over you and make your life difficult..bastard.

Music/Atmosphere is intact, the sounds, fog, otherworld still makes my skin crawl and its perfect. The transition used in the movie holds up real well in the game but I'm hoping it won't happen everytime I have to make the step into the otherworld....might get annoying.
Voice acting is on par with the other SH.....average at best.

I've waited a long time for a Silent Hill title to keep me on end....knocking over things or making noise(like busting open a door) will attract the monsters and they really come for you...even if you tip over a lamp over in another room....they will come for you(bust through the door to get at you)...I'm looking at Schism(best creature design in the game) here.

There are some frame rate and hiccups in the game but nothing major.

So far I'm looking at a 8.0-8.5 game.

SWEET! I love the Silent Hill games. I just started playing the PS2 game in the series called Origins. Its pretty good.

p.s Silent Hill 2 game me the chills. I once played all night long and had messed up dreams. Scary stuff. Messed with my mind.

Well, I decided to pick this up after all. Always been a fan of Silent Hill, and it seems like IGN's biggest complaint was that the main character controls and fights too well. Shame on them for improving the controls! I'll start playing it one of these nights (I refuse to play a Silent Hill game in daylight), so I'll see how it goes.:)

Mine still hasn't arrived :( However I read they have delayed European launch to Feb 09, so at least when my import does arrive, it should still be well ahead of the euro release :D

Played the first chapter tonight. The atmosphere is pretty spooky, it feels like a Silent Hill game should.

One thing I'm really not impressed with is the graphics. Haven't really seen anything so far that the PS2 couldn't have pulled off...we'll see where it goes from here. I'm definitely intrigued.

QUestion for those who've played a little already:

Okay, am I just too stupid to find the save points, or are there really just not that many?

I just spent a long time in Shepherd's Glen, and the first save point I finally found was in the cemetery...does that sound right? If I hadn't played that far, I would have had to start over in the Nightmare stage next time.

I'm assuming you didn't follow Judge Halloway into the town hall building...you should of....you missed some background on the "Shedards Glen Anniversary" and a save point.

Did you go home yet?

The graphics arent the best in the industry but their alright.....one thing thats annoying me though is the inability to run from monsters...you are actually forced to fight them and thats a bummer.

I was quite annoyed with the dog demons and alex tank like movements but I got over it.

You would assume correctly. ;)

Yah, I went straight home after talking to her, and I only found my first save point after fighting the first doggie.

Also, here is another thing I need to critique. This may or may not be considered a minor spoiler:

<START SPOILER> I was somewhat disappointed/surprised by the lack of the main character's reaction when the horrible things start happening. I mean, let's look at it: He returns home, briefly talks to his mom, checks out the flooded basement, casually kills the monstrosity lurking in there.....wait, what? Why was there no "WHAT THE F*CK IS THAT?!? MOM, WHY IS THERE A MONSTER IN YOUR BASEMENT???" I mean, this is the first out-of-the-ordinary thing he runs into (outside of the dream of course), and he just kind of seems like "Oh, a monster, guess i'll kill it. Now where can i find gas for that water pump..." No sign of shock or horror in his behavior. Maybe I'm weird and nit-picking here, but it really struck me odd and took away from the atmosphere. <END SPOILER>

^Yeah I was thinking the same thing but Alex's expressions are spot on....did you see his face when the lurker jumped out of the water....although he didn't kick up a fuss and ask his mother "WTF mom!" the face expressions says it all.

To tell you the truth I'm not too fond of the hell world in this game....in past silent hill it felt alive with breath bleeding walls meets rusty metal.....in this one it feels larva, heat and steel but they still look good though.

Silent Hill number 2 was the most crazy mind messing game I ever played. Don't ever play that game right before you go to bed. I was dreaming about that game and it was driving me crazy. I woke up in the middle of the night and screamed like a small school child. The music, plot the messing with your mind was crazy. I will pick up the new one tomorrow.

I need to get back to Homecoming, I haven't touched it in over a week already.

Problem is, I refuse to play it during daytime, it has to be dark. AND, I don't play it when my girlfriend is also in the living room, cause it's too scary/creepy for her. Seeing how we live together, that also limits my available Silent Hill time. :)

But to be honest, the real reason I've been slacking is Far Cry 2. That game really kind of stole the show there, I haven't been playing anything else. :D

Finally played a little more this week. :)

When he first sees that leg-creature in the hotel, he's finally like "Oh man, you've got to be SH*TTING me!". I laughed, cause I was thinking "are you really that slow, or did the other monsters just seem too ordinary to show a reaction?". :D

I made it to the first boss fight in the atrium. I had a hard time getting into the game for awhile, but it's picking up. Fighting the monsters is pretty hard, I try to use the axe and save my ammo for the smogs. I'm intrigued enough to keep playing, so I guess I'm enjoying the game. (Or maybe I just want to beat it so I can start Bioshock and Dead Space!) :D

2ny, I loved Silent Hill 1 & 2.

Can I pick this up, start playing it, and have any sort of clue whats going on, or do I need to read some plot synopses to get it?

^Yeah Mike, its a separate story from the other silent hill...actually its even in another town but still connected in some ways.

Its worth picking up if you are a fan of Silent Hill.....although it does use the movie for some of its tactics but its still a good game.
