Hi. I've had my first ever iMac for about 2 weeks now and love it. I did however have problems transferring my music collection over from my old pc and ended up deleting a lot of files from failed attempts. It's all sorted now, but I was wondering if there was some sort of equivalent to defragmenting a hard drive in Mac OS X.

Please don't beat me!

The HFS+ file system used by Macs doesn't really benefit much from defragging. OSX does an on the fly background task that keeps the pieces of files together where possible, but the files are randomly scattered across your hard disk rather than in one continuous block as is common on NTFS volumes.

Best advice is to let OSX get on with it, but make sure you leave plenty of empty space on your volumes so it's got space to work in.

Thats great. I had a feeling it would do somethin like that. But had to make sure anyway. Thanks
