So I’m very indecisive right now and hoping you guys can make up my mind for me.

I bought the Nike Series 7 in Midnight for $309 a couple weeks ago. I just saw the Silver Series 8 pop up last night for $379 and grabbed that as well and will be keeping one of them. Do you think it’s smarter going with the 8 for that price or save some money and go with the Nike 7?

I’ve always liked the premium look of the Silver but they took it away with the 7 so I went with Midnight instead. I’ve always had black Apple Watches in the past and wanted to switch it up. Is there any pros or cons to either one? Is the Nike version worth staying with the 7?

Also, did they change the Midnight color for the 8 series or did they keep it the same as the 7?

9 to 5 Mac (among others) has a good comparison of the 7 vs 8 here.

The biggest differences are crash detection and temperature detection/cycle tracking of the S8, absent on the 7.

I bought an aluminum 8 at launch and had it for 10 days when I was swayed by the siren song of NaTi. I found a barely used S7 on Mercari for a good price, so I returned the S8 to Apple. Crash detection was not a must-have feature for me, and I don't need cycle tracking so I went with the materials & color/finish that I wanted most.

$70 isn't that much especially if you keep your watch for 2 or 3 years. That's barely $3/month for two years.

My advice: keep whichever watch you like most (unless crash detection is a game-changer for you).

HTH.

I was in a similar quandary when the S8 was launched. Buy a discounted S7 but miss silver, or go for a silver S8. I really wanted the silver aluminium, I'm not at all impressed by the S7 aluminium colour options.

In addition to crash detection and temperature sensing, you also get BT 5.3, additional low power modes, and of course the silver finish.

No difference between the Nike and non-Nike these days. There use to be. I bought the S8 with the Nike strap but there is no S8 Nike model. The Nike faces are no longer locked to the Nike watches.

The midnight color was introduced with the S7.

Ultimately, it's really up to you and personal preference. There aren't a whole lot of differences between the S7 and S8. With the release of WatchOS 9, Apple allowed us to add Nike watch faces.

I'm in a similar situation: always had dark watches and saw a bunch of sales pop up on the S7 and S8 just as I was thinking about an upgrade. Last week, Amazon had the S7 GPS + LTE 41 mm (my configuration) for $329 and the S8 with the same specs for $389. I ended up going with the S7 because I can't use the temp sensor, and the crash detection isn't worth $60 to me. (I also looked at the S7 Graphite SS for $479, wow what deals!)

Now, you've also got the color thing going on. I was looking at midnight vs midnight (to answer your question, it's the same color from S7 to S8). I understand the allure of a new color, but I know I'm going to end up wanting the darker color long before the watch needs to be replaced -- made that mistake with iPhones before.

So I'd say IF you are really sure you want the silver, go for the S8. But also... do you really want the silver? Darker watches really do look better. ;)
