I ordered the space grey but read somewhere that the coating can be scratched and finger prints are visible whereas the silver is bare aluminum without the likelihood of visible scratches and finger prints.

Guess the question is

Silver or Space Grey? Which is more durable from an aesthetic standpoint.

Silver is probably slightly more durable in the long term but I found the space gray a lot better.
I would simply pick what you prefer, pick silver if you have no preference for slightly better color durability.
Don't worry too much even space grey is durable.

My brother has a MBP 15 2018 Space grey and it's in absolute perfect aesthetic condition under heavy use.

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro in space grey and it still looks like brand new. Also, I am not sure if the silver model is exactly bare aluminum (it looks like so, but there may be some variations which may make it as durable as the space grey option).

I prefer the silver. The does not show as much scuffing as the Space Grey so it stays better looking longer. They both look nice though. IMHO.

I wanted to put up a poll myself for this...

I've been using space grey since 2016, had 2 2016 pros and 2018 16inch all in space grey, wanted a silver this time, but I forgot when ordering it, so got space grey again, can't be bothered to change it and having the delivery date slip.

It seems like the black well enclosing the new keyboard design has shifted how some people see the silver vs. space gray decision, in both directions. I found some users on another thread mentioning that they preferred silver because of the blacked-out keyboard design, while I personally seem to prefer space gray on the new (and old) design. I would probably prefer silver if it were even lighter for better contrast with the black keyboard/bezel/Apple logo, something like the Starlight color on the new iPad that I've only seen pictures of. As it is, the silver seems to be in a strange middle-ground for me while the space gray embraces the darkness of the keyboard a little more, to my eye.

Silver. Timeless and a lot cleaner than Space Gray. Also, the blacked out keyboard looks amazing on Silver, along with the Apple logo on the back of the screen. The MagSafe connector appears to be Silver aswell (even on the Space Gray).

Btw, I already createad a thread with a poll:

(I ordered a Space Gray at first but changed in the end for the Silver).

that black keyboard feels like it might be better on the space grey. Im going grey because I always buy darker things. My wife also has a last gen silver though and it looks awesome.

I think space gray looks better with the all black keyboard, but decided to go with silver for durability concerns. It's PROBABLY fine to stay space gray, but I keep my machines a long time and they get a ton of use.

Don't make the decision based on scratches. I had a SILVER 2017 12" MB that I used through college and by 2021 it was dinged up badly--many of the scratches were actually a darker color and so they were very obvious. The way silver reflects the light also made the dents more obvious.

I went with a Space Grey 14" this time around, because 1. I wanted a change & 2. I think the darker body makes the screen pop a bit more.

But, if I were to have gotten a 16", I think I would've gone for Silver, as it works better on the larger body.

After many years of space grey everything, I went for silver this time round - I think its a nice change but also like the contrast with the black keyboard tray.

That said, I walked in to the Apple Store and saw some space grey machines with dark purple wallpapers which I thought looked great.
