I bought a 64gb refurbished black and slate iPad mini and I noticed that around the camera is a silver ring which makes it look odd and its distracting so
I was wondering if it has any effect on the actual camera and if I may be able to exchange for another at my local apple store?

looks like they used the part from the white version by accident.

it should be a dark slate like the rest of the body. i would take it back. this seems to be happening more frequently. there was another thread here about how the sleep/wake button was silver on the black/slate model

to me, the iPad is defective. it may work properly but it has not been assembled properly. who knows what they screwed up on

I've never looked that close, but it's true.

The OP has one that's assembled with a part from a White Mini.

I can confirm this having four Mini's in my house. Mine is Black on Black around the lens. So is my sons. My daughters is White on White.

My wife's looks just like the OP's...Black with a White ring which under certain lighting looks silver, not black like the others.

Actually, @medic, I come around to see if someone's learnt a new trick on their iPad, found a new, hot app BUT more often then not, I come across drivel like this.

I bought my iPad, stuck it in an incase, and used it. I didn't bother going over it to look for the minutest scratch, mark, light-bleed - etc, etc, etc.

sheesh!

And then, the OP was beside himself with joy, that he had in fact found a "defect" and could hardly wait to go to Apple and request a replacement. The colour of the ring has no role in the camera function.

WOW...I just noticed, after three years, that my iPhone 4 has a silver ring around the lenses - shouldn't it be black...maybe I can get an iPhone 5 as a replacement!
