Hi all,

After completing an update to IOS4, the iPhone is now locked. Whenever I try to connect with iTunes, it says that SIM cards is not supported...

What I can only see on the screen is the USB cable that shows it should be connected to iTunes.

Any solutions?

Were you on a JB/Unlocked phone?

Does anyone have a solution for this issue? My dad is having this same problem on his 3GS and he is asking me for help. I have no clue what to do.

If you are using any iphone JB and unlocked for other carriers besides the official one it will always lock up after an update and only work with official sim.
Thats obvious. Next time NEVER update a JB and unlocked iphone thru itunes.

This is a phone that has never been unlocked or jailbroken.

So you are using it with official carrier.
Try another restore thru itunes, leave his simcard in the phone and let it restore and activate thru itunes.
If it still doesnt recognize the official sim then bring it to Apple.

Restored 3 times with no luck. Went to the AT&T store down the street and tried 2 new sim cards and still had no luck. AT&T rep was nice enough to make an appt. for us at the Apple store. They couldn't figure out the issue either and replaced the phone. It sounds like there is some type of glitch with the new OS on the 3GS that only occurs on some phones.

I had that same problem after i restored my 3gs to ios4 .

I found out that there is such a thing as carrier lockdown for the country of origin of your iphone .

Ex . I am from philippines and my iphone 3gs is from korea. Although i have a globe sim which is a supported carrier for the philippines the iphone still wont activate with out a korea official sim .

Im afraid that you will need to do some jailbreaking on your iphone to be able to activate and use your iphone .

First you will need . An official sim for your iphone . You can check the serial no. Of your ifone and find out which country it's from . Then use it's official sim . Or if you have access to a onesim or a phonebook sim then you can use that to activate your phone .

2. Jailbreak your phone useing what ever method you like .

3. Replace the lockdown folder in your i device .

4. Then you can use your phone again .

- this is not a detailed step by step . Search google for the step by step for jailbreak and lockdown folder replacement .

Hope this helps
