Ok so im selling my 1st gen iphone to my friend who is going use it as a ipod...if i sell it to him before i activate/get my 3g iphone do i need to take the sim card out of it and take it to apple to get my 3g activated or what?? thanks

you should sell it to him after you activate your 3G, and then take the SIM out, n sell it to him....he has NO use with that SIM card, if he gets hold of it, he can make payments outta NOTHING on yo account..
