I have a Iphone 3GS in black and my husband is getting in white, both on ATT network.

Can I get his white phone while keeping my number?

Can I switch SIM card? or this has to be done by AT&T store?

Thanks

I did something similar, I gave my wife my White 3g when I got the 3GS and sold her black 3G. Everything has been fine but today for some reason hers said invalid sim card and she had to reboot the phone and now all is well. Is that something I should be worried about?

You got the basic answer from the other posters but here is some detail on the specifics.

1. The phone number follows the SIM card, Activate his phone and then swap SIM cards.

2. Yes, and here is a very easy to follow process: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1438

Just make sure to align the SIM card with the shape a the tray. Don't try to force it into the iPhone.

Thanks so much.

All went Ok. So far so good. Both phones are working fine.

For some reason it took about 3 hours to have the new phone activated.

I have the same question, but can this also be done with the original iPhone?

I just upgraded from the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G S and want to know if I can take the new 3G sim and use it in the original iPhone.

I know that I won't get 3G speeds in the iPhone 2G, but will the sim work for calls and data on Edge?

My 3G card works in a GRPS GoPhone, so I'd say yes.

First we have to know if your original iPhone is Unlocked?

If it is unlocked, then just put the new Active SIM into your original iPhone and ti will just work.

If your original iPhone is locked to AT&T or another carrier, then you will have to use iTunes to pair the new active SIM with your original iPhone or Unlock your iPhone.

Note: There is not a magic 3G SIM. The SIM that came in the original iPhone has the 3G logo even thought the original iPhone is EDGE only.
