SIM card swap without shutdown?

Probably a stupid question, but can I switch out a SIM card if my phone is on?
My iP4 power (sleep/wake) button is dead and I have no means to shut down my phone

Nope I've done it in every iPhone I've owned. Did it the other day actually. No issues
