At the top between the headphone jack and the sleep/wake button. Unfold a paperclip and stick it in and the card slot should pop out.

EDIT: If you're talking about iPhone 4, it's on the right side and the same method is used.

No, there's no need to wipe it. You can take the SIM card out anytime you want.

I assume s/he's selling the phone, in which case they should wipe the phone and remove the SIM.
