iPhone 11 Sim-Free vs Carrier Options

If paying full price at Apple (i.e., not financing), is there any advantage to buying a carrier option over the sim-free one (or vice versa)?

There’s is no difference this year since last year because there is only one modem supplier for both carrier and sim-free. However, the carrier option can allow you do Apple IUP plan.

Are we absolutely sure the carrier versions aren't locked despite paying full price? Feel we've seen people get bamboozled far too many times over the years thinking a phone is/was/should've been unlocked and finding out in some messed up way that it actually was. Carriers are a cancer.

If I'm buying outright, I'm buying sim-free or not at all.
