Did anybody else notice this in the "Whats included the box" portion of apple's website. Also noticed it requires i-Tunes 7.7. Not important just found it odd. Carry on.

I didn't know if it had. Just thought I would mention it for discussion just in case. Lock this.

why is it needed?

the way the iphone is bought and activated means that you should not need to remove or replace the SIM?

just leave it in, and find a paperclip if needed

It happens every once in a while even in sanctioned cases -- here are examples of scenarios that are officially sanctioned (i.e. involve no jailbreaking, unlocking, or other forms of skullduggery that I have committed :D ):

- If your iPhone breaks and you get a replacement, you will typically keep your SIM and put it in the new iPhone

- If you buy a used iPhone from someone and activate it with your country's official carrier in the official way, you will need to put a SIM in it (and there's nothing particularly illegal about that)

Granted, the rumor seems to be that AT&T in the US will want you to actually come to a physical AT&T store (the nerve! ), so it would seem that it would have been cheaper to just outfit every AT&T store with a paperclip, but... :D

or if you already have an iphone and use the sim from that iphone, and are you guys joking when you say its a paper clip? or is it really

No, it most definitely is. They even put it in a little plastic pouch with a diagram of how to use it.

They sent them out during the stupid loaner program phase while they were still ramping up production on v1.
