Hello, I am buying an iMac soon but would like to know about this game and if it would run smoothly on the iMac I am interested in getting

27 inch base model with the fusion drive upgrade. So that's, 8gb ram and 660mx 512mb graphic?

I'm not much of a computer gamer(more so on the Xbox) but if I wanted to play simcity would it work...smoothly and what resolution? May upgrade to the 670mx or 680mx 2gb but don't want to if not worth it (for me).

Since the game is not released yet we don't know if it's going to be very CPU-heavy or GPU-heavy or both. It's hard to tell. The GTX 660M(not MX) is an okay GPU and it should be able to handle something as simple as SimCity.

But don't take my word for it. As I said, we don't know.
My two cents though, I'm getting the 680MX just because I want it to be future proof for 3 years+. If a game is released in 1 year that I want to start playing, I don't want to be halted by having a too bad GPU.
