Yes, it is USB. You need OS X 10.2.8(?) at least. OS X 10.3.x is better. Then you need a Bluetooth adapter. The D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB adapter. The software is built in. Just plug in the device and you're off.

Can i plug the usb bluetooth adaptor into my keyboard because the 2 usb ports on the back of the computer are taken?

You can indeed. My Belkin Bluetooth adapter is plugged safely away in one of the ports on the back of my display, and the ports on the keyboard work just as well too. :)
