Simple Gallery

I've been wondering, what is an easy way (if there is any) to make a simple gallery using just HTML + CSS. But something better than just link to .jpg file.

Also I see this (just click on that picture) gallery is almost everywhere. Why? Is it that easy to make? Or is there any free template for it?

If you mean the way the screen darkens and the image expands to cover the browser window, thats called lightbox, its based off javascript and dead easy to set up. You can find more information on it here
