I am looking for a simple and intuitive graphic design program, it doesnt need to be as sophisticated as something like adobe illustrator, but a bit better than Ms paint.

my friend currently uses MS word to create graphic organizers for her class (teaches middle school). its a lot of graphical shapes/arrows/text boxes. Using MS word *works* but she sorta fights it the whole time since Ms Word is made to be a word processor.

Shes not the most tech/computer savvy so I was trying to avoid something as complicated as illustrator.

Hoping for something free or inexpensive (sub 100$)

MS Powerpoint might work better than MS Word for graphics.

Similarly Keynote has some graphics capabilities, and is more OSXy.

Pixelmator is a pretty sophisticated graphics software and very affordable. I believe they have a trial version that you can download and also a large number of well made tutorials. I believe it is on sale right now for $15!!!

Keynote or Pages are good Apple apps. They work for many graphic design projects and are pretty easy to use.
