I find myself increasingly frustrated by TV/movie soundtracks that are very high dynamic range, where the voices are whisper quiet and the explosions threaten to shatter the windows.

I know, I should count my blessings. Back in the old days, things were often super-compressed. But, there are times, particularly late in the evening, when I would like to have that super-compression back.

Does anyone know of a simple, inexpensive compressor? No studio bells and whistles, just a control that says more/less.

I did Google this extensively, but, did not find anything suitable. It seems like there must be something out there.

You could EQ it with a small mixer but I'm not exactly sure how you could compress a commercial movie's sound track.

Just a simple limiter is all you need for some boost. I think it's included in apples standard plugs.
