Windows Explorer can count files by right clicking on a folder and choosing "properties".

OSX Finder Get info doesn't seem to count the number of files - especially on a network drive.

Is there a way to count the number of files in a folder in OSX?

Thanks.

At least for me under Snow Leopard, the Get Info window will show an item count for a folder in the "Size:" line:

Size: 117.9 MB on disk (117667424 bytes) for 382 items

This may take a while to calculate, especially for larger folders.

Or, in Show View Options (in Leopard at least) check Show item info and it will display the number of items for each folder in Icon View without even highlighting it. And, if you open the folder you want that info for, it's displayed in the bar at the bottom.
