Hi i have a core 2 duo Macbook with 1GB of ram. I was looking into buying the sims 2 but i was wondering how well it runs on the macbook. And also i noticed it doesn't have the universal symbol but the expansion pack for sims 2 pets does. So if i bought both would it then run universally?

Thanks a bunch

It runs OK, just OK. If you get into a scene where a lot of people are present, it would slow down significantly. And you won't be able to have it at top graphics.

I tried it with BootCamp, sometimes games have a better performance in Windows, so maybe in OS X it has a different performance.

There's a Universal patch on the Aspyr website to upgrade the basic Sims 2 to Universal, or as you say one of the later expansion packs such as Sims 2:pets will run the game as Universal.

One thing to point out though is that the game doesn't support the integrated graphics that the MacBook employs – I've tried running my copy on my MacBook and there were a few glitches with the graphics, and the game locked up completely a couple of times. If you want to play The Sims on your MacBook, it might be a better bet to take a look at The Sims: Lifestories which has been designed with laptops and lesser specced computers in mind.

Sims 2 on MacBook Pro

Hi - Yesterday I bought a MacBook Pro and the Sims 2 does not work at all on it. After being told by the apple call centre the intel core 2 duo processor was not compatible with my older game and i should download certain universal binary patches, which of course i did and it still did not work. i then went and purchased the new release of the sims 2 (universal) and it still did not work. i contacted apple again who told me that the video card in the new macbook pro's is so advanced ea/maxis need to release yet another patch to keep up and be able to run the game. app this will be released in the next couple of weeks but i cant find anything about it anywhere.

Please don't count on the game working. I'm extremely disappointed at the moment. I'm supposed to have the best computer on the market but yet it cant play my favourite games!

Sims 2 on my 24" iMac crashes all the time too. So bad that my daughter has all but abandoned it. And it's fully patched with the latest revs etc.

funny how my ibook G4 runs this game alot better that my sisters 2.0ghz macbook core duo
