So tired of this. When my series 5 moved to the first version of 7, it was battery drain hell, and so I had to do a reset to get it to normal. Things were fine. Then 7.1 installed and now my watch won't make it through the day. It has regressed. The answer always seems to be to reset the watch and setup from scratch, which is a giant PITA particularly with ApplePay, etc.

Is anyone else seeing big drain with 7.1? A good example is last night. Fully charged at midnight. Goes into sleep mode. Wake up at 6:30am, 71% battery. usually, it's in the low 90's. It's now 11am and it dropped to 61%. I won't make it without a charge today.

I've had this happen before, but have used the backup to restore, so didn't loose anything but the time it took to do the reset. (years ago had a series 0 that would be dead in 3 hours after an OS update, re-pair with restore and it was back to it's normal 20ish hours)
with the restore, I think you do have to re-authorize Apple Pay, but the cards will still be there, I think you just need the 3 digit code.

I've got a series 5 on 7.1, did a unpair/repair with restore after the 7.1 update, it had seemed the battery was running low, but I've also recently changed to wearing the watch while I sleep instead of charging overnight. so it might just be me adjusting to a new charging routine, and sometimes forgetting to put it on the charger.

I took it off the charger last night around 11pm at 100%, it's now 3pm and i'm at 55%

I do put it in theatre mode while sleeping, so the screen is not on or waking up as I move during the night. (use automations in the shortcuts app to turn it on/off at 11pm and 7am).

as much as you don't want to hear this, I'd try an unpair/re-pair and use the backup. Also from my experience the battery will improve a bit over the first few days after doing this, so give it a few days before passing final judgement.

you could also try removing apps you aren't using, as one of them might be the problem. I don't let my watch auto install apps, and just keep the ones I use.

and if you haven't turning off always on display will get you quite a bit of battery, It's not a great solution, but will help you get a little more life till you figure out the issue.
