Just a few observations

1) I bought a Swiss automatic watch a month ago on a metal bracelet. Since then, I have had zero interest in using the Mileanese loop on my Apple Watch (I have owned two stainless steel / Milanese loop versions). I now wear the various sports loops and the braided loop on my Apple Watch exclusively. I have always avoided the titanium models because they didn't match the Milanese loop - my next Apple Watch will likely be titanium on a regular strap

2) Since getting my other watch, I wear my Apple Watch maybe three or four days a week. Some days I wear it exclusively on my left arm. Others I double up and wear it on my right wrist. I always wear it when I want to track the days step, know I am going to the gym, etc. Some days I wear it half of the day and keep it on the other half. I know I won't be tracking every step now, but as long as I record workouts I will be happy with the results.

3) I had to send in my AW6 for a repair, and during that time, went back to the AW4. I missed always on a lot - it is a feature that I didn't think I needed, but not having it in a watch degraded the experience for me. I recommend people try it out

4) I picked up the "Black Unity" band and am wearing it now with my AW Stainless Steel in Gold. This is a really good looking strap. People should pick it up

Which Swiss auto did you get?

I found when I started wearing non-smart watches again that I really didn't need the Apple Watch anymore, and if anything it was actually degrading my life a bit. So I ended up selling mine and going all in on a watch collection. One of the best things I have done!

Disclaimer: I am not trying to speak ill of the Apple Watch. I know a lot of people love it and I think that is awesome! It just wasn't for me, but I am happy to have had it because it got me wearing watches again.

Rolex Datejust

I enjoy the workout, heart rate, and other health focused aspects of the watch. I also enjoy some of the notifications / schedule alerts when I have a busy day. Finally there are some complications I like (like the sunset/sunrise complication) that want to have on a weekend. It’s also a good swap watch to just wear for a day casually

Great choice!

I and I agree. I got a Garmin for workouts and hiking and then use a G-Shock or a Sinn 856 for knocking around. I found it nice to get away from notifications. I totally see where it fits in for people though.

I have a few mechanical watches (and quartz) kicking around too. I was using a Fitbit for a long time and there was a period between my failed Fitbit and my AW acquisition when I was using an automatic mechanical. I think I get what you mean. It was a change no longer bothering about whether I’d hit my 10,000 steps, or charging every few days (”few days” what luxury :D ). My watch was simply a watch again.

In the end I am too tied to my fitness right now and it was fine over the winter but now the good weather is coming I rely on the AW fitness tracking. I did have to adjust my automatic every month to get it back on track from an accuracy perspective too. I also have some watches that sync time via radio so no accuracy issues there - there are always other options I suppose.

It’s nice to have options and choices.

I always hated Milanese straps with a passion, ever since I was interested in watches and collecting them. They look absolutely ugly to me, especially on an Apple watch, yuck.
Anyway, maybe this is the case because I came from mechanical watches to the AW and not the other way round ;-)

Mechanicals are down to one piece since I got myself the first AW because I don‘t wear them anymore, but I had to keep my favorite „real“ watch, that one will stay :)

I’d be wary of scratch issues , I bought a Milanese loop but have never used it after reading some real horror stories on here

Just be a bit careful when taking it off. That’s all. I love the Milanese loop, it’s really versatile. I also use a Nike sport band for longer runs, as well as the normal sport band that came with my aluminium S5. But I mainly use the Milanese loop.

A shame to miss out on the Milanese based on what people say on the internet. :)

coming from mechanical watches, though not high end ones. AW is now dominating the wrist. Despite some annoyances caused by notifications, AW is really helpful in helping me forming better habits, exercising more and reducing phone use. as for the band, Milanese loop is just not for me. I use sport loop most of the time. when there is need for style, leather with buckle is a good choice and in the aftermarket there are plenty of choices.
