I assume I can do so without a warranty issue. I have a current generation MBP 2.4 (bought off the refurb site) and I am looking to get a faster 7200rpm drive in there.

Battery life is not an issue to me, where I travel I doubt I won't have access to external power.

Is there a consolidated thread about people's choices for new HDD and their experiences? (searching nets me pages which I may just read through). I do not plan on a SSD at this time.

Yes, replacing your warranty won't void your warranty.

In in this forum there are several threads about the Momentus 7200.4, a Seagate drive with 500GB and 7200 RPM. You just have to look back some days.
