Using mac Mail (on my iMac, not an iPhone or iPad), I have one single email that won't delete. I have searched and searched and only find threads where the email in question is on a handheld device or it's all of the emails.

When I delete it, it tries (for about 2 minutes) to delete and in doing so, everything else comes to a stop. I can't use other applications, nothing. Then I get this error:

The message “PUPPIES!! + Fragrance Gift Sets Featuring Prada, Color Me Lovely, Juicy Couture Women ” could not be moved to the mailbox “Trash — CA Photography”

“438284.emlx” couldn’t be copied to “Messages”.

I have logged into my webmail and was able to successfully delete it there, but it's still stuck in limbo on my computer. It also never downloads the message (as I assume that's what the second part of the error is referring to). It will just sit and spin all day long trying to get it.

Not sure if it matters, but I am running OSX 10.7.5

The problem is that ever since this rogue email appeared, Mail CRAWLS when doing anything. So every 5 minutes when it checks for new message, my whole computer just stops for 60 seconds while mail attempts to check. When it does get a new message, I sit for another 30-45 seconds before it will show me the contents of the message. If it were once or twice a day, no big deal, but I'm on a job that moves fast and I am losing LOTS of time over the course of the day.

Any help is SO appreciated!
