My 'Z' key on my Macbook's keyboard has stopped working out of the blue. Just that one key alone, all the other keys are in working order. There is completely no response whenever I hit that key, it doesn't even reflect in the keyboard viewer when pressed, which incidentally is the only way I could still input it.

Is there anything I could check out other than replacing the entire keyboard/topcase just because of that one faulty key?

Call Apple.
They'll get you to reset the PRAM (always ) and then after that doesn't work, they'll say "You need to get this checked out by our team of repair people or whatever" and then someone either comes to your house, or you bring it to a store and they fix it.
Then your key works! Woo!
:p

PRAM reset is like over-the-counter medecine for Apple customer service representatives.:D
I know!
It doesn't matter what the problem is either!

"Um, ya.. My computer just started smoking out the back...... Okay, here's what you do... This is called a PRAM reset. Unplug everything from the computer....."

It never fails.

After you "repair permissions" of course ;)
