I was wondering if this was possible. I just ordered a single 8GB DIMM from B&H since they were the same price as the 8GB kit and will allow me to upgrade easily if I want 16GB of RAM. I current have the stock RAM (2x2GB) and I really don't like mixing RAM, so if I only have one DIMM, what slot should I put it in?

Doesn't matter which slot.

You shouldn't have any issues mixing them. I used an 8+2 configuration of 8GB Corsair 1600Mhz and the original 2GB Hynix 1333Mhz for about two years with no issues.

Either one, it shouldn't matter. If they're stacked slots(I honestly don't remember), I'd install in the bottom slot for easier upgrade down the road.

Awesome! Thank you! I might actually leave two in then for 10GB total.
