Somewhere Back In The Long Ago
Well, my 4S arrived yesterday, and I have to say, I'm underwhelmed. Okay it's faster than my 4, but the most interesting feature (siri) has very little use in the UK.

It does the basics, clock, mail etc. But has no map function as yet.

If you stand the 2 phones together you wouldn't know which was which. My first Apple disappointment for a long time. I guess we will just have to wait for added function as time goes by.

OP, take it back if you're not happy.... it's not rocket science.

If it makes it any better, it's not just the UK, we're the same here in Australia. I still consider it a great help, but can't wait for it to be complete!

I'm really sorry you're not happy with the phone but to be honest... what were you expecting?

The changes between iPhone 4 and 4s are well documented and apple have made no secret that Siri is limited outside the US. If you're armed with that info, why not just stick with the iPhone 4?

Again, what were you expecting? You only have to look at the images on Apple's website to see what it looks like.

Err... they're not exactly shouting that Siri is crippled from the rooftops in their advertising. It's easy to see how casual observers would be under the impression it does a lot more than it currently does if Apple wasn't hiding behind small print.

Okay, fair enough. They're not shouting about it but it's not a secret and anyone on this forum is going to be exposed to plenty of information regarding this.

And I don't think Apple are misleading people into believing the iPhone has a new design so saying that you're disappointed that it looks the same as the iPhone 4 is absurd.

This.

Don't like it? Take it back and wait until next year.

The lack of UK functionality has more to do with poor fiscal planning by the previous government and the worldwide over extension of credit facilities by various credit agencies than anything to do with Siri.

I'm all up for blaming the last government for things, so I'm intrigued as to how this is their fault.

Siri doesn't know where the nearest hairdresser is, blame Gordon Brown.

Please let it be so. :)

Do Apple advertise any of the location functionality in the UK? Adverts? Website?

Then why would somebody assume it was a feature?

The OP is whining over his own folly.

Still waiting for mine to arrive and if I'm going to be disappointed it won't be because the 4S looks the same or because I can't have Siri use location services

From what I've seen, the speech to text feature works well, and Siri will obviously get better in time.

edit: not forgetting the camera

ROFL. Post of the day:)

Looking forward to the UK Siri rollout. Sooner rather than later would be good though.

It is well documented that the Mapping features are only available in the US and using the US voice, at the moment.

Gordon Brown?

Now I wouldn't say I'm that knowledgable on politics but even I know...

Are you saying that you didn't know this before you purchased the phone? Really?

I Wont Be Returning It

It's faster than my 4, and in due course siri will be out of BETA. I guess it just didn't have the usual "Bling" factor you usually get with a new Apple product.

I've noticed that it's a little bit smaller than the 4 too (not by much though) The kick is in the speed of my apps, which has definitely improved.

I'll spend some time with siri, and I guess it is kind of cool asking it to get your email etc.

I had a big discount on it too, so I'm happier now!

May hang on to my 4, although a friend has dropped several hints,so it may go to him.

Then why start this thread in the first place?

It's not just in the UK but everywhere outside the US.

Regards being identical to the iPhone 4 what were you expecting. Everyone knows it looks pretty much identical to that.
