Siri, Bluetooth, aux in

Ok in my car I usually have my 4S connected to my stereo with a cord plugged into the headphone jack. I then have a Bluetooth earpiece not in my ear unless I'm using it.

My question is that I don't hear notification sounds thru the car speakers or phone speakers. Is there a way to fix that so I know if I get a text and can therefore ask Siri to read it to me?

If you're listening to the phone through the aux jack (e.g. listening to music through your phone), then notifications should come through there too. Make sure your mute switch isn't set to silent.
