I haven’t used Siri for much of anything aside from the occasional text while driving in a few years, partly because when I’ve tried, it always seems to end in annoyance and disappointment and I just stop using it. Posting this here to see if I’m just doing something wrong due to the fact I rarely use Siri.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to reload some of my music on my phone to play while I drive. I don’t have “Apple Music” and have that option turned off in the settings. I’m just trying to play my own music library.
  1. While the Music app lists my music by genres as expected, a simple request like “play some Rock music” is apparently too much for Siri. It replies it “can’t find any <genre> music in your library”.
  2. Apparently some albums can’t be played by name. I’ve tried multiple ways to request it with results ranging from it playing other music by the albums’s artist (not from the album I requested) in my library, to playing the artist “in Apple Music”, to playing a podcast.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

I posted back in October about a Siri issue and with help from this forum learned I apparently was supposed to teach Siri to “connect to VPN” or “disconnect from VPN” through “Shortcuts”. Surely with Apple’s emphasis on music since the iPod days, Siri should be able to handle simple requests from your music library without being told how, right?
