I've updated my device to iOS 18.4 and, living in EU, I've configured Google Maps as the default app for Navigation.
I have been suggested to completely uninstall GMaps and reinstall the last version available in A Store.
Job jobbed: "Hey Siri, navigate to work" and she opens Apple Maps...
If I go for "Hey Siri, navigate to work using Google Maps" I get what I want.

EU Commision is joining the thread.

I've also set Google Maps as my default navigation app, but it doesn't work for me. If I tap contact address in the Phone app, phone automatically opens Apple Maps to navigate me there. AFAIK, this feature is half baked.

This is what happens when Apple just throws things into the RC without actually asking beta testers to test anything. Make sure you submit feedback.

I've tried but...
in apple. com/feedback/iphone there's a drop down menu asking for iOS version and most recent one is 18.3 🤣

I have set Google Maps as default and Apple Maps is deleted (long time ago).

Same thing happens with Calendar events : if i press ont the location it tries to open Apple Maps and it says that it doesnt have a navigation app installed...

Good job once again Apple!
:p

Yes, many users are facing a similar issue right now. It doesn't completely understand the navigation and opens another app unnecessarily.

It does this for all the apps. If you tell Siri to open a site, she'll open it in Safari instead of your default browser. If you tell her to send an email, she'll use the Mail app instead of your default mail app. Basically, if you go through Siri, she'll use the Apple version of the app. Right or wrong, it seems to be working "as designed". I agree that Siri should be respecting your default apps though.

Now if you tap a link for a site, email address, or location, then it uses the default app accordingly.

Considering the focus on AI personal assistant these days and considering this new function was requested for compliance reasons, the "design" here is incorrect ;-)

Yep exactly same thing for me I get navigation from Apple Maps not Google as I've set up!
Siri seems to wilfully misunderstand me when I add "with Google Maps"
