Hi, I hope someone here can help me with an issue I’m having with my Apple Watch Series 8. I’m at my wits' end with this! The watch is set up for a blind person who heavily relies on Siri for assistance.

The watch was working fine for a long time, but recently, when asking Siri to send a message, it no longer reads the message aloud or asks if you're 'ready to send it' or 'want to change it.' Nothing is being said, and instead, the message is automatically sent. I’ve changed the setting to stop automatic sending, but Siri still doesn’t speak the message before sending—it just shows a tick or 'X' on the watch.

The iPhone updated automatically recently, so I’m wondering if something changed. I’ve updated the Apple Watch as well, but the issue persists. I’ve also tried looking for the 'Announce Notifications' setting for Siri on the watch, but I can’t find under Siri or Accessibility anymore.

I've adjusted the settings on the iPhone and that works fine - Siri speaks the message before sending.

Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you use VoiceOver on your Apple Watch? It may impact navigating with Siri and watchOS if that is on.

Additionally, do you also have Raise to Speak on? That feature allows you to talk to Siri without saying hey Siri or Siri.

When you ask Siri to send a message, it does that but also read that message to you and then ask to send it or review it. The update no longer does this.

I am trying to get this feature back on. Please tell me Apple didn’t remove this? This is extremely frustrating when everything was working so well until Apple screws something up.

Previously on iOS 16 but updated to 17 that caused this problem. Surely I am not the only one with this issue?

Do you wear AirPods? If so, announce messages with Siri may be on whereas it announces the messages through the AirPods, then Siri listens to you if you want to read it. Since beta 8 iOS 18 Siri always asks me if I want it to read it to me if I get an email or long text.

No AirPods at all, just want to get this feature back it is now making this person upset. I’ve read that ios17 have removed that feature for whatever reason, so going to hopefully see if there’s a way to downgrade to ios16.

Then you need an IPSW. Here’s a link to get started: https://ipsw.me/16.0

You need to pick the appropriate IPSW for the iPhone you have. Then you restore your iPhone thru recovery mode on Finder/Apple Devices, depending if you are a Mac or windows User. Also, downgrading your iPhone as an Apple Watch wearer may not be recommended as if your Apple Watch is on watchOS 11 or 10, it will not be able to pair anymore and you will need to finish this process at an Apple Store to get your Watch downgraded.

Downgraded the iPhone and now it's saying I need to upgrade my iOS in order to pair the Apple Watch.. There is no way to downgrade the Apple Watch OS from 10 to 9.. Seriously Apple!!

Took the devices to our nearest Apple Store and the 'genius' couldn't even help us get the feature back.. all he could recommend is sending an email to Apple to have the feature returned.. yeah not wasting any more time with this.

Client is considering returning the devices to the store as its no longer 'fit for purpose' since the crucial feature is removed.

I warned you about downgrading your iPhone to iOS 16 as an Apple Watch wearer…
