Siri not working when headphones plugged in

When my 3rd party headphones (or any 3.5mm audio cable) is plugged into my iPhone 6s, Siri no longer picks up my voice through the microphone (even when manually activating Siri via the home button). If I open another app, like Google Maps, the microphone works fine. My headphones don't have a built-in mic, nor does anything else I plug into the iPhone.

Any idea what's going on?
