It's slow as molasses for me on my 4S, so I disagree.

Yea I think it's gotten faster also on my iPhone 5s.

I was waiting for Carplay, but became a bit discouraged as the participants really don't seem to be in any kind of a hurry. But this update may help in regards to this.

And to be able to 'bring your own device' instead of relying on what they give you may be helpful

I agree - super quick. It even flawlessly understood me with all of the windows in the car rolled down and lots of wind noise.
