This morning while driving to the railway station I thought I would see if Siri was intelligent enough to understand “Hey siri, when is the next train from Chelmsford to Stratford?”

This is a journey I do daily so I wondered if maybe Siri would know I meant Stratford London, or maybe he would confuse it with Stratford-upon-Avon which is a famous town about 120 miles away where Shakespeare was born. I thought he will probably ask me to clarify which Stratford I meant.

But no, Siri said something like “checking public transport options” the went silent, and then when I looked at the screen I could see my “destination” was 426 miles away which confused me.

When I got to the station I had a look what Siri had done, he hadn’t chosen Stratford in East London, nor had he chosen Stratford-upon-Avon. No, Siri had assumed I meant the village of Stratford in County Wicklow across the Irish Sea in the Republic of Ireland, a village with a current population of 241.

I mean I don’t expect greatness from Siri I really don’t but c’mon

Even easy questions are impossible to ask.

„Which week number do we have?“ - „Sorry. I can’t answer that.“
