Siri won't work when paired with bluetooth speaker?

I have my iphone paired with my blue tooth home speaker to play music, but when i try and use hey siri it doesn't work. IT will only work if i actually go into the music app and pause the music and then ask siri. IF i press pause from the actual stereo it doesn't let me use it.

Why does it only work if i pause from the phone and not from the actual stereo?
