Hey all,
Recently I've been helping a friend transfer all of her data (roughly 300GB) from an '08 iMac running Snow Leopard to an '09 iMac that has a fresh install of Mavericks. It was at the actual setup stage, right after installation has finished and the Transfer Wizard asks if I would like to import data from a TM backup, another Mac, etc.
I hooked up both Macs with Ethernet, and the transfer completed without a hitch. Upon allowing the new iMac to reboot, I decided to compare hard disk usage space to ensure that everything had copied over. However, I noticed a size discrepancy. The '08 iMac reports 302GB of used space, the new iMac only reports 298GB. I did select everything during the migration process, including user accounts, settings, and so forth, but as far as I can tell nothing is missing from her files. Is that just a temporary file cache or extra drivers that the new OS didn't decide to copy, or is there something else accounting for the missing amount of data?
