Okay, so I swear I'm not crazy.... or at least not TOO crazy. Anyway, today here at work, I'm talking to my team lead and my neck starts doing this sizzling thing. Right from the base of my neck where it meets the skull, there's this sizzly / tingly / think french fries in hot oil weird sound coming out... and he can hear it, too. He says he has the same thing.

I've googled, I've web-md'd, and I can't find crap on this. I've not asked my doctor about it, but I'm going to. Anyone else have this?

It's not a sound coming from bones, or from turning your head. Don't say arthritis, because that's not it either. It's like it comes right out of my spine. I'm 22, going on 23 on the 24th of this month... and these noises didn't really start until I was like 18 or 19. They usually come on when I'm super hungry. My stomach growls with hunger pain, and then I hear the sizzles.

So, do you have the same thing? Know what it is? Am I really crazy, or what?

Its the Spider Larve burrowing into your brain. Don't worry you will be just like us soon.

Best. Response. Ever. :D

Seriously, I have no idea. I'll sometimes hear a rhythmic drumming sound when I'm really tense, which is caused by twitching of my scalp and inner-ear muscles, but "sizzling"? Beats me. I guess go see a doc. They'll probably send you to a specialist.

Good God, man - get yourself to a doctor's office!

You wouldn't find a worthwhile reponse to that question on WebMD, much less MacRumors.

Medical conditions need to be taken seriously... especially when it involved your neck/head...

I've never really thought much of it... simply because it never seemed threatening and only happens when I'm hungry. Wouldn't have noticed it again today, but I managed to skip breakfast and was starving.

The only problem, is my doctor is going to look at me like I'm a friggin nutcase. I can't exactly reproduce the problem very easily, either.

So, no one else with the same hissing spine?

Basically i think i get the same thing, it's kinda like when you lean your head back and move it around, it's just stiffness (old age catching up  ) nothing serious................... unless you had a fall/accident recently then it may be a fractured vertibrae, but hey what's the chances of that ;)

You are in luck
I know exactly what you are discribing
I amd my roommate have it.
to me it the sound is like a leak in an inflatable boat.
happens when I am sitting or lying down for longer periods of time.
its a blood pressure related thing in my case and roomies.
I would go to a doctor to have your blood pressure and heart checked out, in roomies case it was indicative of insufficient oxygination and cardiac insufficiency,
in mine it a long term known blood pressure related issue.
so go to doctor now.

It's your body's natural way of telling you that it wants french fries. :D

But seriously, I'd get that checked out. Sounds like maybe a blood-pressure issue... Does anybody else in your family have high blood-pressure?

does it sounds like someone is making bacon on your neck?(bacon is good!!!:D)

Mmmmm bacon.

Yeah, it's like a weird sizzle coming from my neck. It's strange other people can hear it as well (those around me). The only thing that is confusing, is it's only when my stomach growls!

I'll talk to my doctor about it, hopefully it's not the heart / blood pressure issue!

Well that's put his mind at rest then ;)

I know the OP has some serious-sounding issue, but the responses here are funny!

You should go to a doctor though. Looking for medical advice here is more risky than not seeing a doctor at all.

WOW, dude. Go to the Emergency Room if it's that loud.

:D
well as another poster put it
head/neck issues should be taken seriously

even if it makes you look like an "idiot",
I rather look stupid than be dead...

don't know about looking stupid, i ment ' that comment won't start him worrying then will it?'

it's one thing advising about medical issues, and another scaring the crap outta someone  for all we know the OP could be of a nervous disposition

haha, I'm quite calm about almost everything ;-) I don't spook very easily about stuff like this.

even worse, you could look stupid while dead... hehe.

If it is a blood pressure thing, don't worry. My cardiologist said "it is a wonderful time to be a cardiologist" because there is a lot of science there that works just fine now. Still, I lust after that southern fatback breakfast I saw on the Food Channel. Ooooh, bacon is too lean.
