Is this the first time where it doesn't make sense to just buy a brand new previous gen model from B&H for much cheaper? It used to make sense considering you saved hundreds of dollars and you only got a small bump in speed and architecture but now we have actual core jumps (dual to quad, and quad to six).

If you’re buying a 13 and can utilize the quad core CPU performance yes since you’ll get 2 times better performance. For the 15 inch I would say just go for the 2017 model. You won’t notice much of a difference unless you’re using cpu heavy tasks or need more then 16GB of RAM. DDR4 is nice but not worth the increase of cost.
